About

Now

Currently, I'm an undergrad at the University of Waterloo studying mechatronics engineering. I'm starting to draw my 'T' in the areas of firmware and control system engineering as I progress through my co-ops and learn more of the theory and math in school to understand signals and systems from a theoretical perspective. I get excited at seeing my code 'move', and I'm trying to find opportunities that allow me to do just that :)

These days, I'm writing a lot of C and C++, starting to play around with different embedded design patterns and applications, and trying to learn as much as I can about how the systems around me work.

Outside of the classroom, I've made it a goal to try to fly a bigger XC gliding track and push my current distance record, as well as simply getting out gliding more often. Additionally, I always like to explore campus every term with new clubs and opportunities - this term, my roommate and I are both doing archery club and poker club.

Growing up

I grew up in Calgary, nestled close to the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Growing up, I always had a passion for electrical engineering and frequently tinkered with Arduino's, electronics kits, and software. My first exposure to embedded (though I had no clue what it was at the time) was through a small AVR microcontroller-based temperature sensor I made for my grade 7 science fair project.

Fast forward a few years to high school, and I found out I had another calling - working with robots. I was fortunate enough to attend a school with an active FIRST robotics team, and I was hyped with the possibility of making large, 120lb machines move with code. My FRC team was a huge reason why I ended up pursuing mechatronics engineering, and to this day spend my time tinkering with machines that move.

Another passion I was fortunate enough to explore was aviation due to the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program. While I got some very unique experiences, such as becoming a trained rifle instructor in the middle of the Yukon over a summer, the highlight was getting my Glider and Private Pilot licences and learning how to fly.
